The woman was in medically induced coma for 2 weeks and she went through multiple surgeries. The man has now received a 12-year prison sentence at the first instance. The prosecution appealed for an aggravation and the defendant and his defense appealed for a reduction.
Ádám P. received a 12-year prison sentence at the first instance for physically abusing his girlfriend for 6 hours. The countless kicks and punches on the head, chest, abdomen and legs caused the woman to faint, and she only regained consciousness in the hospital. She learned there that her boyfriend had been hitting her for hours until neighbours, with the help of the doorman and an off-duty policeman, finally got into the blood-stained apartment. Réka Kovács was in a medically induced coma for 2 weeks. Her spleen had to be removed, her eyes and skull were operated on, her intestines were removed and she was given a stoma bag. She is still in recovery.
She attended the recent sentencing hearing, but feels that even such a long prison sentence is not commensurate with the amount of pain she had had to endure. ”What can I say? I have a great deal of respect for the judge, I know that it is not common for domestic violence cases to be sentenced so harshly. Unfortunately, nothing will ever bring my life and health back. As long as I exist, I will have pain, health problems, and I have lost my trust in men forever” –the victim told Blikk.
The woman’s lawyer, Dr. József Lichy, told the newspaper that the man had been convicted of attempted murder, but that he felt that the 12 years „was a good deal for him”. “Under the law, he could have received more,” he added.
The case continues at the second instance, with the prosecution appealing for an aggravation and the defendant and his defense appealing for a reduction.
